Shanghai Photos

That's it then, all my photos are now online. If you've seen the previous batches, start here.
My thoughts have already turned towards the next trip. A few possibilities are at the top of the list...
1) Fly back to Shanghai, and continue the journey by train via Hong Kong to Saigon. Then the following year, I can go from Saigon to Singapore.
2) I found at today that you can travel from coast to coast across the US for just $133. That's amazingly cheap, so it got me looking at travelling from New York to Chicago to San Fransisco.

By the way, I'm not the only one with the travel bug right now, Bill, aka The Hat, will be leaving for India in a couple of weeks for a 4 months jaunt around Asia. He's set up a blog for the trip here.

More Pictures

I've uploaded more pictures from my trip. If you've already seen the first batch, start here. Very train heavy this batch, which will annoy Christian and please my dad. To be honest, I couldn't really be bothered with taking many photos for the first few days, and limited myself to taking a few snaps at stations, which is why this batch is so train heavy. The guy in the cabin next to mine is a decent photographer, so maybe at some stage he'll have some interesting pictures of this bit of the journey on his site when he returns. In the mean time check out his photos.

Holiday Photos

Sheffield Station
Originally uploaded by chill.
Right then, I had planned on uploading my journal and photos side by side on a day by day basis, but people have been nagging me about the photos, so I am concentrating on them first. The first three days of my trip are now uploaded to my Sheffield to Shanghai Photo Set.

I'm back

Sunrise over Ulaan Baator
Originally uploaded by chill.
I'm back then. Shame that the whole moblogging thing never worked out, but I did keep a journal using another technology called a "pen" and "paper". I'll try and publish the journal on the Shanghai site as soon as possible.
The trip was, as you might imagine, fantastic. I feel like I have been away for ages I've seen so much. It is hard to single out the best day, though the 24 hours spent crossing Mongolia would be somewhere near the top of the list. I got up at sunrise to say goodbye to people leaving the train at Ulaan Baator and snapped this photo of the polluting factories in the world's coldest capital city from the train window. After Ulaan Baator, the train snaked its way through snowy mountains before desceneding into the Gobi Desert. The desert was relentless, punctuated by the occasional camel or Ger camp.

I'm off

Bloody piece of shit mobile phone. It has all of sudden decided that it doesn't want to send email, so no photo blog of my trip. Wankers. Not sure who is to blame, but they're all wankers. So, I'm writing this at an internet terminal in the Eurostar checkin lounge. So far I will sum up my journey with one word. Damp. I left home at 3:50am to walk to the station and within seconds it started to rain. Wait, that doesn't do it justice, it started to absolutely piss it down, with sufficient verocity so as to penetrate my waterproof. Wankers. I don't know who is charge of rain, but they're all wankers. I managed to find a cab, but by that point I was already soaked through. After shiffering on the train for 3 hours I decided to by some Lemsip Cold & Flu from Boots ready for the cold that is sure to follow.
Anyway, they main thing is that so far everything has run on time. I won't really relax until I'm on that train to Moscow though.
This is probably the last you'll hear of me until I get there, due to the wankers that broke my mobile, but I am hoping that it is only a temporary problem. Later.
